state of the world

Where do I begin?
I've been thinking of the future.
In an attempt to give myself peace of mind, as well as a sliver of hope towards systemic change, I joined the Model United Nations club at my community college. This is not a revolutionary action, but I learned much about myself and my world view. Additionally, I experienced how other young adults cope with the state of the world.
When I say the world, I acknowledge that I live in the United States - and understand that it is not the entire world - and many countries and nation states do not face the issues that we have brought upon ourselves and other smaller, developing nations.
The western world however does hold the global spotlight in its policy and economic decisions. Therefore, being a byproduct of what those decisions have determined in the world, I deem it necessary to state that there is much work to be done. As a nation, communities, and individuals.
I'm not here to claim that I know more about the state of the world than you or the next person. But rather, I need to feel like I have a place to talk about how this modern society has shattered my soul, over and over again. And how I know that other people can relate, yet not a single person can do anything to change it.
What do I do when I know I will never be able to afford a house? How can I go to school knowing that I may never get a job? Why do I work when I know my paychecks of minimum wage will never suffice? The weight of the world hovers over my shoulders, and I know I don't need to carry it all, it is happening to everyone.
The state of the world makes me only feel secure enough to do one thing: create. Yet even then, the artists' struggle seems to be worse now than ever. AI and inflation make an artist's world feel impossible and unbearable.
Which is why I need to create more now than ever. Art for me is as spiritual as it is political and essentail to surviving this world, even when I have no clue what I'm doing.
Since 2020, my world has been constantly unstable and more and more discouraging. Yet my faith in a higher power has never been stronger than today. And with all those moments of pain and suffering, I have found great beauty in the world.
In that liminal space I find beauty, and the moment I do it slips away - almost as quickly as I found it. And it is never consistent. So committing this space to myself and my family feels like the most natural next step.
My digital diary will document my spiritual growth, travel experiences, philosophical discoveries, political opinions, and any other entry that feeds the artistic vision.
There are so many ways to leave a digital footprint but none speak to me like a blog do, so I will find my own path in this space.
When there is no place that feels like you belong, create one.
The state of the world compels me to create this.
All of this is for you.
Much love,
mad kate
